In the latest breaking news, Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed a motion to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. The Republican congresswoman cited several controversial decisions made by Secretary Mayorkas as justification for her move.
Congresswoman Greene pointed to Mayorkas’ role in the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies, which she claims are “failures and only serve to benefit the interests of illegal aliens over the safety and security of American citizens”. She highlighted the fact that the Department of Homeland Security has opened the southern border to thousands of unaccompanied minors and has drastically reduced the number of beds available for migrant children.
She further alleged that under Secretary Mayorkas’ watch, DHS has failed to enforce immigration laws in the interior of the U.S. The congresswoman added that Mayorkas had also threatened to “shut down” journalists who speak out against the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies.
The congresswoman asserted that these actions by the Secretary of Homeland Security are “unbecoming and a danger to our country” and has therefore submitted a resolution to the House of Representatives to impeach Mayorkas.
The resolution demands that Mayorkas be removed from office based on his failure to uphold the security and expressed will of the people of the United States. Reports suggest that the resolution currently lacks the support of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and is unlikely to pass.
It remains to be seen whether Congresswoman Greene will be successful in her mission to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. However, her move has sparked important debates in the country about the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies and the need to protect the safety of American citizens.
