It is widely known that former Vice President Joe Biden is an avid golfer. However, relatively few people are aware of the brief FBI inquiry that occurred over a decade ago regarding his golf club membership.
The story begins in April 2008 when the Wall Street Journal reported that Biden had become a member of a Philadelphia-based golf club shortly after being elected to public office. The membership was another in a series of accusations brought against the then-Senator of using his position to receive special favors.
Upon reading the article, an FBI agent in Philadelphia contacted the golf course in question, The Valley Club, to obtain a membership agreement. The agent also contacted The Beacon Hotel, which allegedly leased a suite to Biden at a discounted price. This was viewed as a possible “payment-in-kind” for Biden’s membership. Following the interviews, the FBI concluded that there was no violation of criminal laws and closed the inquiry.
Since then, questions have been raised as to why the FBI chose to investigate Biden’s membership at all, given that he was a prominent public figure with significant influence. There have been some speculation that the inquiry was part of a larger effort by the bureau to scrutinize Biden’s public activities; however, the FBI has not made any official statements regarding the investigation.
This story may be over a decade old, but it serves as an interesting reminder of the importance of scrutinizing those in positions of power. With the upcoming election, it is important to remember that no one is above the law and that all individuals, regardless of their social standing, should be held accountable for their actions.
