At the Republican Jewish Coalition (RSC) Summit in Las Vegas on Saturday night, South Carolina Governor and 2020 Republican candidate Haley held a speech praising the pro-Israel platforms of the Republican Party and slamming the current President, Donald Trump, for his chaotic personality.
Haley is well-known for her membership of the RSC, and her speech marked her first major campaign appearance since announcing her power projection. Her speech served to illustrate her commitment to the organization and its ideals, as she expressed her admiration of Republicans for being pro-Israel and praised the current administration for standing for Israel’s security.
In her speech, Haley pushed for the defense of Israeli interests in the Middle East, both in terms of diplomatic engagement and military presence. She stated that US security and Israel’s security “are intertwined” and that US needs to acknowledge that. She also highlighted her support for the proposal to recognize Jerusalem as the “undivided capital of Israel” as a major achievement that advanced the cause of Israel in the international arena.
In contrast to her praise of Republican engagement with Israel, Haley criticized President Trump’s chaotic approach to government administration. She mentioned that a “vendetta” that stemmed from the failed Obamacare repeal effort has been polarizing the party, and while she didn’t mention the President by name, her comments seem to allude to his involvement in instituting chaos in the GOP.
Haley made it clear during her speech that she stands firmly on the side of pro-Israel interests and is strongly opposed to Trump’s chaotic efforts and message. This speech and her messaging has tremendous implications for the upcoming presidential election, as Haley’s strong stance for Israel and against chaos in the GOP will be a major primary platform for her campaign. This is an important development as she does not only strive to shake off her close relationship to the president, but also to show the Republicans her ability to lead with a firm and pro-Israel stance.
