Forget Dating Apps – Sen. Grassley’s Office Has Produced 20 Marriages
When it comes to meeting the right partner and falling in love, often times it feels like an impossible feat. Luckily for 20 couples, Sen. Chuck Grassley’s Office had a hand in creating life-long relationships.
In 2009, Sen. Grassley employed an intern named Angie Gingrich. During her tenure, she noticed there were many single staffers in the office, and decided to do some matchmaking. With the help of Grassley’s wife, Barbara, she began pairing off romance-seeking staffers.
This old-fashioned matchmaking as it turns out has been quite successful, with 20 marriages resulting from it. Even more unusual is that all of the couples are still married to each other, years after being put together.
The idea to matchmake began as a way to help single staffers have more fulfilling lives—both professionally and personally.Together, the idea was hatched that Angie could act as modern day “Cupid”. Without much effort, couples blossomed and members of Sen. Grassley’s staff became better acquainted with each other in a much more intimate way.
The matchmaking has been conducted through an informal network, where staffers pass along tips and make introductions when they think it’s appropriate. Each year, a wedding is held in the capitol to celebrate the latest newlyweds.
Sen. Grassley’s matchmaking has been so successful that the practice has even spread to the other offices of Iowa’s U.S. representatives, along with senators from some other states.
In an interview with The Des Moines Register, Angie Gingrich had this to say about the process, “It’s very fulfilling to watch. We work together and you get to learn a little bit about each other. And then you get to learn a little bit more about each other. And then you start liking each other, and it just kind of takes off from there.”
As the saying goes, every love comes in its own time and with its own method. Nonetheless, Senator Grassley and his wife should be praised for their efforts to help foster love and relationships among their staff. One things for certain – dating apps have nothing on Sen. Grassley’s Office.
