Walgreens, a leading drugstore chain in the United States, recently announced the selection of Tim Wentworth as its new CEO.
Mr. Wentworth brings decades of experience in the health care industry to Walgreens. He most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefits management provider. Prior to his role at Express Scripts, he held various leadership positions at UnitedHealth Group, including most recently as CEO of OptumRx, a leading pharmacy care services organization.
Mr. Wentworth began his career at McKesson, where he held a series of leadership roles, culminating with his appointment as President of McKesson Pharmaceutical. After leaving McKesson in 2003, he joined HealthLinc, a mid-market health IT services platform, where he maintained the role of President and Chief Executive Officer until his departure in 2005.
At Walgreens, Mr. Wentworth will be responsible for driving the company’s long-term growth as it continues to face the challenges of an ever-evolving health care environment. He brings a wealth of experience in pharmacy care services, health IT systems, and customer engagement platforms. It is this experience that Walgreens hopes will speak to its focus on providing excellent customer experiences while making it easier for patients to access the care they need.
This move reflects Walgreens’ recognition of the need for innovation as the company remains resilient in the wake of disruption in the retail pharmacy and health care industries. Going forward, Wentworth is tasked with leading the company as it works to serve customers and community through transformative strategic plans, partnerships, and digital capabilities.
In addition to his role as CEO, Mr. Wentworth will also be joined by Walgreens’ President Ornella Barra, who will be responsible for leading the company’s operations globally. Both executives will serve on the Walgreens Board of Directors.
As Walgreens’ new CEO, Tim Wentworth brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the health care industry and patient needs. With company-wide transformations, partnerships, and innovations, Walgreens is set for continued success in the years to come.
